SHARK WEEK!!!!!!
SHARK WEEK!!!!
Definition: The Discovery Channel's Shark Week, first aired on July 27, 1987, is a week-long series of feature television programs dedicated to sharks. Shark Week is held annually, normally running in July and/or August.
More exciting definition:
1.) Shark week is a whole week dedicated to laziness.
2.) Every night for a week you sit and watch sharks eat people and animals.
3.) You scare yourself out of ever going into the Ocean again .. but eventually you go get over it. At least I do.
4.) Usually shark week is better watched in a group of 2 or 3 people but if you have to watch it yourself it is still acceptable.
5.) Shark week is pure bliss.
Used in a sentence: WOOOO HOOO, it's shark week!!!!
Excuses you can ONLY use during shark week:
"I can't river monsters is on tonight."
"I can't it's shark week."
"I can do anything before 9, after that shark week starts."
Check out my favorite video from shark week so far!!

My First Summer in Utah!!
My first summer in Utah has been spectacular!! I won't lie, the first two months living here were completely awful. I couldn't wait to get back home ... but everything has changed! I love Utah! It is such a great place to be. We are so blessed here! We are surrounded by temples, our churches are close to our homes, and you have so many opportunities to brush shoulders with members of the church that are great examples.
July aka the BEST MONTH EVER! Why???
A.)It was my birthday
B.)I just had a ton of fun.
Let's start from the beginning.
So technically June but a July "celebration" I went to my first fireside in the Marriott center with a bunch of friends from my ward. I think it was a kick off to this big Freedom Festival they have here in Provo. It was really cool. Steve Young (who I guess is a pretty big deal .. ) spoke. They had guest singers like Jenny Jordan Frogley (my fav LDS artist) and Alex Boye who is just a ball full of energy. Jenny Oaks Baker was also there playing her violin. She is an awesome musician! It was so great. The music was beautiful and it was a great way to spend a Sunday evening.
July 3rd. Stadium of Fire. I would put this night in my top five BEST nights ever. Seriously. I went with some friends to see Carrie Underwood. Yes. I said Carrie Underwood. This is like one of my dreams. I guess I can check that right off my list. :) It was SO much fun. My favorite part wasn't even part of her concert. She came out and sang the national anthem and there were fireworks and planes ... and it was just nuts!!! I had such a good time. I did though manage to lock my keys out of my car haha so after the concert Logan, Laura, Lane, and I had to walk back to their house. It actually wasn't too bad. The weather was nice and it was kind of fun to see everyone out still from the concert. Great day!!
July 4th, one of my favorite holidays! So I don't know if you know this about me but I just LOVE fireworks. After church a whole bunch of us head up to Park City, UT to watch some fireworks. We find a good spot on a hill and just lay there for a few hours until they start. Ok, it's July and I am in TWO blankets and a sweatshirt. It's flippin freezing!!!! Welcome to Utah! The fireworks were great, all they needed was a little music. Luckily, Logan and Lane met us up there and Lane performed some Neil Diamond during the grand finale. Oh my goodness .....
P.S while I was in Park City, I think I fell in love with it. I also eyed a Mexican restaurant that I juts had to try ... so guess what? Logan, Lane and I went back up the next day!! Woooo hoooo!
July 5th, continuing an amazing weekend! So, we head up to park city and check out the outlets. We end up spending 70 percent of our day there. I bought way to much. Me in a Banana Republic outlet is just BAD NEWS. I got some really great stuff. We all found some really sweet jackets at Oakley that were on sale so we got em. Then it was freezing.... again... so we wore them around matching like losers. haha. We went to a really tasty Mexican Restaurant and then got candy apples at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. While we were walking downtown Main street Logan got sucked into a time share but I'm pretty sure it was a good deal. Swweettt!!
Random Day in July. I get this absolutely great Job with Provo Canyon Schools as a PNR Team Coach. I go threw three WHOLE days of training and just loved it more and more each day. PCS takes kids that have been taken out of their homes and they are admitted with a physc disorder. The kids are put on a plan to success and my job would be to just watch them in their dorms and keep everything safe. I would love waking up and going to work thinking I am making a difference in someones life. It actually made me think about changing my major to Behavior Health. Anyway, after three long days they found out I was 20 and not 21 and apparently you have to be 21 to work there. They said I could have the job back next summer. I was so bummed but it was such a great experience! :)
Shortly after my random day in July...I decided to fly home!! I randomly flew home to South Carolina for like 4 days. It was a lot of fun. I had to learn how to drive a stick shift because my car is now in Utah and all my friends are pretty far from my house. My 17 year old brother taught me around our neighborhood and I was determined to learn. I've been trying to learn for 4 years now. You know something weird? So I've never really have gotten out of first gear, but I have a lot of dreams driving stick and I think because I "practice" in my dreams .. I just got it right away when my brother taught me. Maybe that's not it ... but that is what I am sticking with. So Saturday, I went to Ashely WATSON'S wedding reception. It was pretty beautiful and the had SHRIMP from CHARLESTON ... it really couldn't get better. Eating shrimp and catching up with all my now married friends. I love South Carolina! :-) After the reception Jam Jo and I had our weekly Saturday night sleep over at her place .. it her twin bed. Yes, we are lame. We went home and looked at some stuff for her wedding and just passed out. Oh yeah, we did go to the grocery store at like midnight to get food for the next day. I wore ... my green shorts with soccer balls all over them and pastel Sperry shoes... with a WVU t-shirt. Let's just say, I looked hot. We actually even got invited to a party by a couple of gangsters ... lol weird. So Sunday I went to my old ward. It was awesome, like always. On Tuesday we went out to Monterays ( my favorite Mexican restaurant) to celebrate my birthday. EVERYONE CAME even bishop and his wife. I just love them. I got some beautiful earrings and necklace from Milka. :) The next day I went home and got stuck in every city possible. It totally stunk!! I was in such a bad mood. Eventually I got home (did I just call Utah home? uh oh .. ) and Lane picked me up from the airport. We went and ate dinner at the Mayan. Which is awesome! People jump from like cliffs and waterfalls while you eat MEXICAN food. NuTS!!
Oh ya and while I was home I met my mom's new boyfriend and he got me a bunch of Red Sox stuff for the game I was going to see the next week in Anaheim. He's a huge fan! I rubbed it in Lanes face!!!!
The Sunday after I got home Lane and I left for LA! We were suppose to meet everyone down there .. but it didn't really work out and they left before we got there. Sad. Next time!! We still had a great time though. We did get stuck into traffic once or twice .. ok maybe three or four times. Luckily we played the license punch game which I thought was a good idea at the time ... I now have a huge bruise on my left thigh. So while we were down there we went to Universal City, Hollywood, Rodeo Drive, THE LA TEMPLE, Downtown Disney (kinda), and the Red Sox game ... at the Angles stadium. WHICH WAS AWESOME. We just picked like a really good game. We also didn't have bad seats. I have a favorite player all ready and that would be David Ortiz. He was my favorite way before the game because I have his t-shirt lol ... but once I saw him hit two home runs it was a done deal. He's this huge black dude that is totally awesome. Overall, LA was so much fun and I want to do it again ... when I'm rich!
The end of July and everything I missed after I got home July slowly got boring. I helped Logan and Lane move .. that was semi exciting. Their new place is pretty cool. OH! Pioneer Day in Utah is awesome!!! I saw some really cool fireworks! Loved that. Hm, I went to a couple Orem Owls games .. which again I LOVE. I gave my first lesson in Relief Society and I will be giving my first talk in a few weeks. That's kind of a huge deal for me .. but I'm not even nervous anymore.
July was such a good month and even having as much fun as I did ... I learned a lot of new things about myself too. I know who I am and what I want and that feels so good. My testimony continues to grow everyday and I am surrounded by great people that help to strengthen it and I am grateful for that. This really is a good life ... even in Utah! ;)

Love
For the past couple weeks, on Sunday nights I have been picking a Christ like attribute to work on during the week. Last week was Patience. I learned a lot and surprisingly feel a lot better about my patience. Yesterday, I decided to work on Love this week. Today I was reading some talks by President Uchtdorf--my favorite, and I came across a November 2009 Ensign talk called "The love of God." Heavenly Father really always knows exactly what I need!!!
I took three pages of notes on this talk--yes, it was THAT good!!
How do we become True Disciples of Jesus Christ?
When I first thought about this question .. I was like ... this has a billion answers. Seriously... how am I suppose to pick one?! Well, surprisingly enough the answer is simple! "If ye love me, keep my commandments" John 14:15. Easy right? Ok, so maybe not THAT easy ... but totally possible with some help from our Heavenly Father. As I kept reading I was kindly reminded that love, is the greatest commandment. Matthew 22:37-39 says, "Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." If we always try our best to love God and each other, our lives will have direction and meaning. We will never be steered down the wrong path. President Uchtdorf tells us, as well as providing direction in our lives and the Lord's Church here on earth this will also provide us direction for the Lord's Church on the other side of the veil! What a profound promise!
When we start to love God, and love others as ourselves ... our lives take on a new meaning. When we love God all of our priorities are align. "Obedience becomes a joy rather than a burden", because we are showing God that we love him by keeping his commandments!
But why should we Love God?
Just like we are taught that God doesn't NEED us to pray to him... God doesn't NEED us to love him. But WE NEED to love Him. President Uchtdorf says, "For what we love determines what we seek. What we seek determines what we think and do. What we think and do determines who we are-- and who we will become." If we choose not to love our Heavenly Father and instead love something or someone else more ... we will let go of the grip that we have on the iron rod. We will start choosing to put other things before scripture study, prayer, and even our church meetings. Slowly but surely we will loose total sight of the iron rod and be completely lost. I am so thankful for this knowledge so that I can do my best not to make these mistakes. But I do know that if I do ever loose sight of the iron rod or just my grip ... I can ALWAYS find it again. Which brings me to the next point.
Why does Heavenly Father Love us so much?
As no surprise to you or me, we are Heavenly Fathers children!! Why wouldn't he love us? We are created in His image. Just as your parents love you and would do anything in the world for you, Heavenly Father loves us just as much and even more. Everyday, here on this earth we make mistakes ... we hurt peoples feelings ... and sometimes choose not to love one another because of our flaws. Great news is, is that Heavenly Father will ALWAYS love us no matter how wicked, poor, or selfish we might be. So back to my point, if we loose sight of that iron rod or just our grip, we can ALWAYS find our way back!! " What this means is that, regardless of our current state, there is hope for us. No matter our distress, no matter our sorrow, no matter our mistakes, our infinitely compassionate Heavenly Father desires that we draw near to Him so that He can draw near to us."
So, just like our testimony should be strengthened everyday, and become more strong ... so should our love for god increase everyday and become stronger.
How can we increase our Love for God?
"God is love, the closer we approach him, the more profoundly we experience love."
As I read this part of the talk, I made a list of everything that I can do to become closer to God and feel his love ... that way I can increase my love for Him by doing these things.
-We must seek the spirit
-Keep his commandments, all of his commandments ... not just the easy ones
-Talk to him ALL the time EVERYWHERE and about EVERYTHING. D&C 19:28 says, "And again, I command thee that thou shalt pray vocally as well as in thy heart; yea, before the world as well as in secret, in public as well as in private."
-Proclaim publicly that we love Him.
-Share are testimony with others
-Align our thoughts and actions with His
-Read the scriptures
-Listen to General Conference
-Visit the Temple
-Study the words of His Latter-Day prophets
-Listen and do what he asks
-ENDURE TO THE END
Be still and quiet, listen for Heavenly Fathers voice in all things. Listen for it in the temple, during General Conference talks, while in nature or reading your scriptures. I know that when I make time for Heavenly Father and do not rush ... I hear his voice and I have confirmation that He really does LOVE me.
To conclude, I will share my favorite quote from this talk. "Love is the healing balm that repairs rifts in person and family relationships. It is the bond that unites families, communities, and nations. Love is the power that initiates friendship, tolerance, civility, and respect. It is the source that overcomes divisiveness and hate. Love is the fire that warms our lives with unparalleled joy and divine hope. Love should be our walk and our talk.
It is only Monday ... and that is what I have learned about Love so far this week. Let's hope I can put it to good use! I have 6 more days before I pick my next Christ like attribute to focus on!! I'm going to be a ball full of knowledge!

A small world, a big plan.
I hate the coffee mugs that say, "Life sucks, then you die." To whoever wrote that... I wish you knew what I know!!! Life is amazing, somewhat unpredictable, interesting, and miraculous! Life is part of our Heavenly Fathers greatest plan!
Life is so exciting! It is full of the unexpected. It is full of love and laughter, heartbreaks and let downs...changing and growing. There are not many people that take the time to sit down and really think about their life--what they have learned and experienced, good memories and bad. Sometimes it takes special moments that prick our hearts to remember these kinds of things.
I experience moments like this ever so often ... and when I'm in a calm place ... I can sit and think about them. I think about the things that I have experienced so far that have built the person I am today. Whatever they may be good or bad, I am thankful for them all.

It's official!!
I deactivated my Facebook account. Now, I don't know how long I will be able to go with out it ... but I'm trying. I just checked the thing WAY too much. Maybe a little time away will make it not so addicting. Most of my friends have no idea I don't have a Facebook anymore, they are probably all going to think I deleted them. Haha funny!! :-)
This counts Day 1 of no facebook.
Good night!!
